The price of the ETA is currently around \u20ac20 (\u00a316) and will increase to around \u20ac25 (\u00a320) from April 8, 2026<\/span><\/strong>. This increase is intended to fund the modernization of the border control system, according to the British government.<\/p>\n

January 2025<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

From April 2, 2025<\/span><\/strong>, Europeans will be required to have a visa called eTA <\/strong>to travel to the United Kingdom<\/strong><\/span> for all types of travel (Business, Tourism, Studies, etc.) excluding travelers in transit who are temporarily visa free.<\/p>\n

The British Home Office has announced that to travel to the United Kingdom, obtaining a paid electronic visa will be compulsory. This dematerialized visa, called ETA<\/strong> for \u201cElectronic Travel Authorization<\/strong>\u201d, must be presented, with the biometric passport, by any visitor wishing to travel to British territory, with the exception of citizens of the Kingdom and the Republic of Ireland.<\/p>\n

Europeans will be the last to be affected by the implementation of this electronic visa.<\/p>\n

This system is already in place in the United Kingdom for travelers from Gulf countries, such as Saudi Arabia, Qatar and the United Arab Emirates. This obligation will be extended to the rest of the world’s citizens, except Europeans, from January 8, 2025. They will be able to apply for a visa from November 27, 2024 to anticipate this new measure.<\/p>\n

European citizens, including the French, will be the last to have this new obligation linked to travel to the United Kingdom applied. They will be able to obtain their ETA from March 5, 2025, before it becomes compulsory to enter British territory from April 2, 2025<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

To travel to the UK and since Brexit, a Visa is generally required<\/strong> with some exceptions.<\/p>\n

British immigration has put in place (for travelers who currently do not need to obtain a Visa – EU members, etc.) a travel authorization request electronic, eTA<\/strong>, as of April, 2nd 2025<\/strong> (linked to your passport on which you submitted the eTA application). You will therefore need to present your biometric passport (mandatory) to which this electronic travel authorization, eTA, will be linked.<\/p>\n

Thus, travelers such as French and European citizens, have to obtain this eTA before traveling to England, Scotland, Northern Ireland or Wales.<\/p>\n

Since Brexit, all trips lasting more than 6 months require obtaining a Visa, regardless of your nationality. In most situations you will then need to subscribe to a Standard Visitor Visa<\/strong>. This Visa must be taken out online and, after submitting fingerprints in a center based in Paris, it will be affixed to the passport.<\/p>\n
